Savannah Bananas vs Texas Tailgaters: Last Six Meetings

The Bananas and Tailgaters met six times in September, playing three games at Historic Grayson Stadium and three at Globe Life Field.

Savannah swept the opening series in Georgia from September 18–20.

Texas responded in Arlington, winning 2–1 on September 25 before shutting out Savannah 3–0 the following day. The Bananas took the September 27 finale 4–2.

September 2026 Head-to-Head Results

Series	Savannah wins	Texas wins
September 18–20, Grayson Stadium	3	0
September 25–27, Globe Life Field	1	2
Last six meetings	4	2

The Tailgaters held Savannah to just one Banana Ball point across their two Arlington victories. Those performances give Texas a useful blueprint for the final: limit scoring chances and keep each inning within reach.

Savannah still owns the better record across those six games. The Bananas recovered from their two Arlington losses to win the final meeting.

Road to the Banana Bowl: How Both Teams Reached the Final

Savannah Bananas: A Ninth-Inning Comeback Against the Party Animals

The Party Animals defeated Savannah 7–3 in the opening semifinal on October 1.

Savannah needed to win the October 3 rematch and the deciding Showdown to advance. The Bananas trailed 3–1 entering the ninth inning after the Party Animals earned the Trick Play Equalizer Point.

Savannah scored three runs in the ninth to win 4–3. Under Banana Ball rules, every run in the final inning counts as a point, allowing the Bananas to erase the deficit.

The series moved to a Showdown, where DR Meadows scored the winning point to send Savannah into the championship.

Texas Tailgaters: Sanchez Leads the Comeback Against the Coconuts

Texas lost its opening semifinal 3–2 to the Loco Beach Coconuts on October 2.

The Tailgaters returned on October 4 and won 2–1 behind Brett Sanchez’s seven innings of one-run pitching.

Indiana Stanley produced an early scoring play by leaping over the pitcher covering home plate. Kyle Martin added a seventh-inning home run.

Texas forced a series-deciding Showdown, where Nick Lopez scored the winning point to secure the Tailgaters’ place in Washington.

Four Players in the Spotlight

DR Meadows — Savannah Bananas

Meadows gives Savannah speed on the bases and athleticism in the field. He’s also known for his backflipping catches and energetic playing style. His running ability makes him a player to watch when Savannah needs to turn a hit or defensive mistake into a scoring opportunity.

Danny Hosley — Savannah Bananas

For Hosley, the championship brings a homecoming. The Savannah pitcher grew up in Vienna, Virginia, just outside Washington, D.C. He spoke to Axios ahead of the game about the preparation that goes into Banana Ball, including rehearsals for the team’s performances.

Playing at Nationals Park puts Hosley close to where he grew up. His pitching involvement will depend on Savannah’s game-day plans.

Brett Sanchez — Texas Tailgaters

Sanchez’s semifinal outing showed how much Texas can accomplish when its pitching keeps opposing hitters under control. The Tailgaters have already enjoyed success in low-scoring games against Savannah. If Sanchez features in the championship, his ability to limit runs could be important against a Bananas team capable of scoring late.

Nick Lopez — Texas Tailgaters

Lopez enters the final having already delivered in a postseason Showdown. His experience in that format could prove useful if Texas needs another decisive scoring play. The reduced-field tiebreaker places particular importance on individual execution and baserunning.

Three Things That Could Decide Banana Bowl 2026

1. Can Texas Keep Savannah’s Bats Quiet?

The Tailgaters have shown they can limit Savannah’s offense, but keeping the Bananas off the scoreboard early won’t necessarily be enough.

Savannah’s semifinal comeback demonstrated the danger of allowing scoring opportunities late. Under Banana Ball’s final-inning rule, multiple runs can quickly erase a lead.

Texas will need the same pitching and defensive discipline that worked in Arlington, particularly when Savannah gets runners into scoring position.

2. When Will Each Team Use Its Golden Batter?

The Golden Batter rule allows a team to send an eligible hitter to the plate outside the normal batting order once per game.

That gives managers a chance to use a preferred hitter in an important situation rather than waiting for the lineup to come around. A Golden Batter could give either team an extra scoring opportunity late in the game. Using the option too early means it won’t be available later.

3. Could the Championship Go to a Showdown?

Banana Ball uses a two-hour time limit, with no new inning starting after the limit expires. A game tied at the applicable stopping point moves into a Showdown tiebreaker.

The Showdown reduces the number of players involved in each scoring opportunity, putting more pressure on the hitter, pitcher and fielders.

Both finalists have recent postseason experience with that format, although the championship could still be decided in regulation.
