Alex "Ziggy" Ziegler

Former California (PA) two-way player whose bat-balancing act became part of his baseball career

Alex “Ziggy” Ziegler’s route to the Savannah Bananas is difficult to confuse with anyone else’s. He played college baseball at California (PA), studied sport management and later turned bat balancing and trick performance into a signature part of his on-field identity.

Background

Ziegler appeared as both a pitcher and outfielder during his college career. Baseball-Reference records a 4-0 pitching season with a 2.81 ERA and two saves in 2015. Years later, PennWest documented his return to Pittsburgh with the Bananas after he had once worked concessions at PNC Park as part of his sport-management coursework. The same university profile notes multiple performance records, including balancing a bat on his nose for roughly an hour and a half and a 126-foot cornhole shot.
